Webcam Poker and the USA

The links on my site only go to 888 Poker, which does not accept American customers. The reason is two-fold. I am living in the USA and do not wish to incur any legal risk through the promotion of websites that accept American customers. Secondly, the only major option for Americans looking to play webcam poker is not the best for players, and I strive to only promote poker rooms that I would put my own money on.

Where can I play webcam poker as a United States resident?

Search for “pokerview”. I’m not linking to them for reasons listed above.

What do you have against Pokerview?

Nothing. It’s just that in the wake of a US government crackdown on online poker sites, the stability of the market is very uncertain. In addition, Pokerview is a small skin on a very small network, which increases the risk of financial problems leading to the loss of player funds. But as there are no reasonable alternatives for Americans, if you are determined to play webcam poker, then Pokerview it is.

Would I be breaking US law if I played online poker?

On a federal level I don’t think so, and many smart people agree with me. State law is more complicated, but in most states it is legal to play online poker. Promoting or operating poker sites that accept US customers is a whole other story.

I heard of XXXX webcam poker site that accepts Americans. What do you think?

The only major webcam poker site that accepts Americans is Pokerview. I’d even be more wary about some new site than I am about Pokerview.
